Many people who have attended a 4 year college say that going to a 2 year college is the "easy way out." The reality of the situation is that a 2 year college is a way to a shorter degree and less requirements to get into the school. Now, this is with the exception of 2 year Technical programs that cannot be completed at your average 4 year university.
2 year colleges are generally less expensive and offer different programs than 4 year universities. They offer many trade programs such as welding, carpentry, electrician, etc. A 2 year university is viewed as more of a "hands on" university which is wonderful considering that is the career you will be going into.
Another disadvantage to attending a 2 year school is that they do not award full ride admissions mainly because the ACT and the SAT aren't as highly viewed as they are at 4 year schools. At a lot of 2 year schools, you do not even have to take the ACT or the SAT. They have a test of their own designed
to see whether you are acceptable for the school.
Although a 2 year school is less expensive than a 4 year school by a wide margin, it is much harder to find shcolarships into 2 year schools. This is mainly because the expenses don't compare to a 4 year school, but there are scholarships hiding throughout the country waiting to be taken. The best way to find scholarships for two year schools are to go to websites that are scholarship search engines such as the ones listed on our "scholarship" subpage on 2 year colleges
